(384 words) It is generally accepted that Lermontov completed work on the work “The Hero of Our Time” in 1838, however, there is no evidence of this. The author did not mention the conceived novel anywhere, so the date of its writing is still a mystery. But the main characters of the novel are known, which interest the reader so far. It is their characters that must be disassembled for complete immersion in the text.
Each hero of the novel had his own character. All of them are bright personalities painstakingly created by Mikhail Yuryevich Lermontov. The protagonist of the novel is Grigory Pechorin, a young nobleman. Parents left him a great inheritance that allows him to live "on a grand scale." Gregory is handsome, popular with women. He served in the Guards regiment, but was transferred to the Caucasus due to participation in a duel. Pechorin is a type of "extra man", he is not satisfied with his life, he is bored with everything, and he does not know what to do with himself.
Maxim Maksimych is an officer of a respectable age, he finds a common language with everyone and easily converges with people. Very emotional, completely openly demonstrates his feelings to others.
Grushnitsky is a young man of noble origin. He served with Gregory in the same regiment. Envious of Pechorin, unsure of himself. He dies in a duel after Gregor reveals his deception with an unloaded pistol.
Dr. Werner is a military doctor of 40 years of age. The doctor is poor, moonlighting, treating rich people who have arrived at the sanatorium. Well versed in human personality. Not married, as he considers himself not suitable for this role.
Bela is an incredibly beautiful girl of 16 years old, the daughter of a Tatar prince. Bela is charming, knows how to sing and dance. Since birth, lives in the aul, does not know Russian well. After the abduction and short life with Pechorin, he dies at the hands of Kazbich.
Maria Ligovskaya is a young educated girl. It has an attractive appearance and a slender figure. A girl from a good family, well-mannered and able to maintain a conversation. She is an excellent dancer, dreamy, but very capricious, which is characteristic of the girls of her origin.
Faith is Pechorin's only true love. With her, Gregory opens to us from the other side. At the time of their meeting in Pyatigorsk, the woman is married and is being treated for the disease. The romance flashed again depresses Vera, she cannot stand it and tells her husband everything, he decides to leave immediately. When Pechorin finds out about this, he frantically tries to catch up with his beloved woman, but after an unsuccessful attempt, he comes to the conclusion that everything is for the best.
All these characters are interconnected and serve to reveal the image of Pechorin. So, Grushnitsky and Werner are peers of Pechorin: one comic, the other tragic. Maxim Maksimych is the exact opposite, a representative of the past century. The women in the novel are completely different characters and symbolize the impossibility of happiness for Gregory.
